I Can Coach You To Write Better

I have years of experience working in the advertising industry helping new writers to craft their communication skills. I know how to make people laugh and I know how to make people cry. Having taken an MA in Creative Writing I can also bring academic discipline and techniques to the table.

Writing for me is a practise that requires practice. If I don’t write just about every day my style gets clunky. I guess it’s just like playing the piano or being a top sportsperson.

Unsurprisingly new writers often struggle to find their style. They also tend to make a raft of common errors of structure, style and grammar that are easily corrected (and best corrected before they become habits).

In a coaching role I need material to work with. Ideally we start with your synopsis and narrative outline and what you think your book’s ‘journey’ is. The discussion here would include your vision of your audience and an expectation of what you hope they will take out of the book. In the case of business or self-help books, an outline of chapter headlines is pretty useful.

Then, obviously, we need some written work to review. If fiction this will preferably be the first 2,500 words – although if you’re not writing in linear fashion any content can be a starting point. For business books the first chapter or two is fine.

For coaching engagements I like to work on an initial fee for discussion, review and project scoping, and then determine a set number of review and coaching sessions (minimum of three) until you are comfortable in taking the book the full distance.

Generally people who I coach also ask me to mentor their finished manuscript which, having worked with you along the way, I offer at a reduced price.
